Complex Trinomial

To know if the standard form of the equation is a complex trinomial, its a value must not have a coefficient of 1 or it cannot have a common factor (ax²+bx+c)

For example

6x²+11x+3

Step 1: Does the coefficient of a have the value of 1?

6x² does not have the coefficient of 1

Step 2: Does this equation have a common factor?

No this equation does not have a common factor

Step 3: Now you know that this equation is a complex trinomial, list the mulitples of the a value and the multiples of the c value

A Value:                  C Value:

              6*1                        3*1

              2*3

Step 4: Arrange the these numbers to form a factored form equation that would add up to the original equation

           (2x+3)(3x+1)

Question

Is 2x²+22x+56 a complex trinomial?

Solution

Step 1: Does the coefficient of a have the value of 1?

2x² does not have the coefficient of 1

Step 2: Does this equation have a common factor?

Yes this equation has a common factor of 2

Therefore this eqution is not a complex trinomial
