To factor a simple trinomial, you must make sure that the coefficient of the a value is 1. (ax²+bx+c)

 

For example

 

x²+19x+18x

 

Step 1: Make sure that coefficient of the a value is 1

 

           x²= 1(x²)

 

Step 2: Solve by using the Guess and Check method, make sure that the product of the C value is the sum of the b value   (ax²+bx+c)

            

            x²+19x+18x

            (x+1)(x+18)

 

18 * 1 = c

 

18+1 = b

Solution

 

Step 1: Make sure that coefficient of the a value is 1

 

          x² =  1(x²)

 

Step 2: Solve by using the Guess and Check method, make sure that the product of the C value is the sum of the b value (ax²+bx+c)

 

          (x+1) (x+6)

 

6*1 = c

 

6+1 = b
